Holidays in Tournus

Make Le Rempart your home base

During your stay at our hotel, take the time to discover all the charms of Tournus. One of the best ways to explore this pretty town is to follow the self-guided walking tour organised by the Tourist Office. The tour follows in the footsteps of Gerlannus, the bishop who financed the construction of Saint-Philibert Abbey. You’ll also be able to travel back in time to discover the greatest sites and monuments of Tournus including Saint-Philibert Abbey. This former Benedictine monastery is a 10th and 11th century Romanesque masterpiece. The buildings, which remain in pristine condition, house a refectory, a vaulted room, a cellar and a cloister. The adjoining church is one of France's greatest and most majestic Romanesque buildings. Its high, vaulted ceilings, sunny nave, narthex and crypt with several rooms lend it a unique elegance.

Musée du Vélo

The only collection of its kind in France

Cycling enthusiasts will enjoy another stop: the Musée du Vélo – Michel Grézaud, or bicycle museum. This space, which extends over more than 600 m2, tells the story of the bicycle with exhibits including old dandy horses, high-wheels, postman's bikes from the 1940s, and carbon tube racing bicycles. Visitors of all ages can try out the bicycle of their choice: cruisers, circus bikes, and all kinds of other two-wheeled wonders.

Hôtel Dieu – Musée Greuze

Fine arts in the old hospital

The Hôtel Dieu-Musée Greuze is another key stop on the tour. This former hospital, built in the 17th and 18th centuries and listed as a historic monument since 1964, seems untouched by the centuries and still has the three vast rooms which once housed patients. Its pharmacy, one of the oldest in France, is unique, and still houses over 300 earthenware pots. The three rooms of the hospital are now a museum, featuring collections of works of art and objects ranging from Pre-History to the 21st century. The museum gives the work of Jean-Baptiste Greuze, a famous painter born in Tournus, pride of place in its stunning spaces.
